In the above clip, the endlessly phenomenal Patty Griffin plays two songs from her beautiful new album, American Kid, on Later…with Jools Holland. Her new album was written as she prepared for the death of her father, an imminent loss that informs many of the songs. In this clip she opens with the gorgeously elegiac “Go Wherever You Wanna Go,” then brings out her gentleman friend Robert Plant to sing harmony vocals on “Highway Song.”
